Storm Damage

Storms can cause damage to a roof in a number of ways, the most common causes being hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and falling debris. Hail and falling debris can damage shingles, while high winds call rip shingles right off your roof. Heavy rains can cause water to pool, creating or worsening leaks. Storms with strong winds, hail and even heavy rains can sometimes wear away at already worn areas which can cause further problems with punctures, leaks, and other water damages.

How do I know if my roof has sustained storm damage?

One of the first things to do after a big storm is to check your roof for any damage. Even if there is no visible water damage from inside the home, there could still be damage done on the exterior of the roof. Heavy winds, debris and hail can all cause serious damage to a roof causing leaks and rot that can lead to much more extensive and costly repairs if it goes unrepaired. It can be dangerous and difficult to inspect your roof yourself, so we are happy to help, but here are a few things to look for to determine if your home has storm damage.

  • Hail damage on your gutters or downspouts

  • Hail damage and dents on your siding or any other parts of your house or property.

  • Missing shingles due to heavy winds

  • Debris on your roof or your property caused by heavy winds.

  • Visible Granule Loss.

  • Interior water leak in the house or attic.

  • Signs of hail or snowstorms.

  • Damaged shingles- these can range from blisters, curling, or cracks in the shingles.

Having your roof professionally inspected is the best way to determine if there is any current or potential damage to your roof caused by storms that can lead to interior leaks or additional damage to your home.

The National Roofing Contractors Association recommends scheduling a roof inspection following any major storm that involves high winds, hail or flying debris. It is also recommended to get roof inspections as a preventative measure and the frequency of your inspections will likely depend on the age of your roof, but it is typical for homeowners to receive a roof inspection at least once a year

At Tough As Nails Roofing Contractors, we are not storm chasers, however we do a lot of insurance restoration work after storms have hit. We partner with a Public Adjuster to help communicate with the insurance company regarding the repairs, lessening the burden on the homeowner. We will make sure to produce quality work and repairs, ensuring that your property will be better than before!  Unlike companies that come in from out of town when they get word of a storm, and are gone right after the repair, we are here to stay and have over 20 combined years of relationship building and experience in the Atlanta and surrounding metro areas.

I am thrilled with my new roof and it couldn’t have been replaced at a better time. Wes McClure was the perfect person to coordinate the project and see it through to competition. Everything happened just as he said it would. He updated the roofing vents and brought the new roof up to code.

I worked with Josh Walker on a full roof replacement and he was extremely professional and knowledgeable about the insurance claim process. He was able to find enough damage to have insurance cover the cost of my whole roof with the exception of my deductible. I was very happy with the work that he and his team did and would highly recommend working with him for your roofing needs!
